Crystal Norman set the high school world on fire as a freshman, ending
the year 8th in the state in scoring and by far the top freshman
scorer. Riley finished 15-6 that year, behind a 24.0 per game average
from Norman, with a season high 40 points against Mishawaka. She
backed up her scoring prowess with an average of 12 boards. She broke
the Riley school record for freshman scoring twice during her first
year, exploding for 39 against LaPorte, then following up with the
40 point game against Mishawaka. The potential was enough to gain her
national attention, even a No.12 ranking nationally by Full Court
Press.
Norman followed up her outstanding freshman year with a 14 point,
7 rebound average as Riley's scoring became much more balanced,
especially with the emergence of teammate Suntana Granderson's
game.
11-7-01...Riley cruised to a 73-20 victory over Concord in their first game
of the season. Norman was struck in the nose in the first quarter and saw
limited play during the game. She finished with four points, but led the team
with eight rebounds.
