Spring Game Scouting Report

You and db have done a great job summarizing the day and I just have a couple of other general comments about things that stood out in my mind...

    1. Berin was just great and seemed to be having a good time at that! I feel like we should all send him an email and thank him for deciding to be a Boiler and welcome him to the "family."

    2. We need to all take a knee and say a prayer that Berin doesn't get injured! His backup (kicking for the black team)will be JC transfer Andy Nelson. Andy must have "potential" or he wouldn't be on the team but he better do some serious work on his kicking game over the summer otherwise we are in deep doo-doo!

    3. IMHO absolutely the most impressive thing about the whole game was the number of times I found myself seeing "R-FR" next to a name in the program after the announcer gave the name of the guy who made a play. These guys have been out-of-sight, out-of-mind, for the past year and man oh man have we got an impressive "R-Fr" Group!!! Many of their plays have been noted by Texas and db but seeing them out there and the plays they were making was enough to make my Boiler heart soar! Then add in our incoming recruits and all I can say is we have a lot to look forward to in the future!

    4. The crowd was very animated and enjoying it all in such a "cozy" setting in spite of the weather that chased many away at halftime. Carmel is VERY impressive for a HS but was so weird to watch the Boilers in such a tiny venue! Their big bodies seemed so oversized for the general area that a few times I felt like they were playing arena football!

    5. Mike Rhinehart is like a Tim Stratton clone! Either he hung around Tim a lot and picked up all his mannerisms or it is just coincidental but he's built like Tim, moves like Tim, even trots off the field like Tim. BUT I think he has better hands than Tim and seems to fight more for YAC's then Tim did. He was impressive.

Lastly a lot has been said about the turnovers by both the Gold and Black offenses but I did not see those as negatives but rather as positives for our defense. I don't thing we lost a step on defense in spite of key graduations and we have a lot of noise-making to look forward to again when the D is on the field.
