The 2002 version of the Junior All-Star team has been announced, featuring
a half-dozen names either looking at Purdue, or being looked at by Purdue.
The "core" team, a six-man squad that will play in both exhibition scrimmages
with the Senior Stars, has four players on Purdue's scouting list. Pike
teammates Parnell Smith and Justin Cage, along with Adam Liddell of Dekalb and
Sonny Troutman of Brebeuf will keep the staff scrambling for a tape of the
scrimmage, one of which to be held in Mackey Arena. Frankfort's Brandon Crone
and Hammond Noll's Kenneth Harris round out the "core" squad.
These six players will make up the core team for the Junior Stars, and will
participate in both scrimmages against the Senior Stars, coached by
Bluffton's Wayne Barker. The Junior Stars will scrimmage the Senior Stars
twice, June 12 and June 19, and will be teamed with an additional six juniors
for each of the two games.
Completing the junior team for the June 19th "North" game will be forwards Trey
Eaton of Tippecanoe Valley, Drew Conner of Taylor and Wayne Denger of Lebanon.
At guard for the team will be Ricky Hise of Kouts, Matt Bell of Kokomo, and Peyton
Stovall of Lafayette Jeff.
Completing the junior team for the June 12th "South" game will be guards Todd
Abernathy of Heritage Christian, Chris West of Speedway, Zane Bowman of
Barr-Reeve, and Matt Pait of Jeffersonville, plus forwards Austin Montgomery
of Perry Meridian and Kyle Anslinger of Evansville Reitz.
The first scrimmage, featuring the "South" stars, will be held on June 12 at Mackey
Arena on the campus of Purdue University. The second scrimmage, featuring the "North"
stars, will be held on June 19 at Wawasee High School in Syracuse, IN. The girls
games are set to tip off at 6:00pm, to be followed immediately by the boys all star
scrimmages. Admission will be $6.
