Pitino - looked old.
Donovon - Friendly with Pat Knight, was also talking to Charles Smith for a while
(Charles was in a suit, not sure what he is doing these days). He seemed to be one of the
most visible coaches along with Matt Doherty.
Dave Odom - He is quite the networker, he was seeking out all of the other coaches to talk to.
I sat next to Ellis, the Auburn coach, he did not have much to say but had his camp notebook
out and was making a few notes about players.
Mike Brey - Overheard Mike Brey talking to one of his players, who was working the camp, about
leading the team next year (Ryan Humphrey). He said they both walked on eggshells last year
and this year they could really step up and lead. He also said that Ivan K. did not listen
very well and "did what he had to do". I took that to mean that he transferred. I am not
sure why they had to walk on eggshells, I guess because they were new to the program.
Izzo comments, I referenced most of Izzo’s comments in the ABCD players update. These are
non-basketball related: Izzo and Feinstein also talked about adoption, as they both
adopted babies in the past. This was of particular interest to me as my wife and I are in
the process of adopting a little girl from China. I thought it was interesting that they both
mentioned having to pull strings (Izzo with the Michigan Governor, Feinstien with a
congressman that he used to cover when he was a political reporter) to make the adoption
process work. This confirms why my wife and I decided not to adopt domestically, as we do
not have the pull in big government to call in a favor like these guys.
BJ Armstrong was there in a Bulls shirt, is he a scout for the Bulls?
In case you were wondering, the camp gave out programs to coaches and the media, but not to
the general public. I just walked into the media room and started printing out info from
one of the computers they had set up for the media to print out camp stats. That’s where
I was able to get the stats I posted last night and the player listings.
