There is quite a bit of courting going on in recruiting, and I think as in most relationships, both sides are trying to get what they need out of the arrangement. I think the first question is can you trust the other side to be honest with you about where you stand. Then the next question is are their actions consistent with what they are telling you? I think a program that is really interested in you shares power in recruiting.

Duke really does not need a point guard in 2009, and to me is the reason for their ambiguity. And honestly, going into the summer saying you still need to scout seniors-to-be strikes me as poor recruiting. The Duke staff is saying they can't commit to a player because they have to scout a few others this summer? You would think a major program would have all the scouting they need on the seniors-to-be, and rather be using the summer to close on their priorities.

Do I believe the staff at Duke are poor recruiters? No. Especially when the staff showed up this winter to watch Ben Davis take on a Detroit team loaded with future Division I players, and Bentley had game-highs against a top high school team. But that would really indicate just where Bentley fits into their recruiting plan now, doesn't it?

As in relationships, sometimes the best thing for you has been right in front of you all along.
