It seems that everyone on this board is singing in unison that we need a stud center for next season, yet ALL of our losses at the end of last season were due to guard play and lack of depth at guard, not because of mismatches at center. Consider:
1. At Indiana, we had no one to match up to DJ White, but at the end of the game, with Kramer in foul trouble, Eric Gordon took over with DP and won it at the foul line.
2. At OSU, we had no one to match up to Koufos, but we lost the game because of DP by Lightly and five Butler bombs, while Kramer had foul trouble again.
3. Against Illinois, we had no one who could match up to Pruitt, but we lost the game because their guard bombed us with six straight threes.
4. Against Xavier, we had the height advantage, and outrebounded them, but the game breaker was Lavender, the shortest guy on the court. And as I recall, our guards were eTECHing wind badly in the second half.
A good case could be made that our biggest problem last year season was lack of depth at the guard position, not center. In all four losses our guards were tired and/or in foul trouble in the second half, resulting in our losses.
