Sorry in advance if this sounds a bit harsh--but it is a forum so I am going to add my 2 cents. I know Painter's opinion is all that matters but I still will state mine as a fan:
Painter has demonstrated for me today that he must be like a kid in a candy store. Just grabs what looks good and is at hand. There is no way this kid is part of any kind of LONG TERM PLAN. Painter just sees him and says, "well we have to have this kid". Unbelievable.
To me this young man MIGHT be quite a player - someday. But there is no doubt using a schollie on him might be a schollie Purdue could have used in 2010 on any of 7-8 top 100 Indiana (& 1 IL)kids that like Purdue, and will be available. Is this kid more valuable than Kitchel? Than LN's Martin? How about Carroll, Donnie Hale or either of the Johnsons? I doubt seriously doubt it. Well your looking at a kid that will prevent Purdue from taking one of those players. And for what?... a back up to one of our already SIX guards!!!
Taking Ryne Smith...ok, but questionable as to me he was already a sixth guard.. but a zone breaker, okay maybe part of a good plan. But stop in a gym and see a kid and sign him up ....is this for real? Sounds like a very youthful move on coach Painters part. No way anyone convinces me this kid is part of a long term plan or long term design for a National Championship.
AIM HIGHER.
