Scouting Jackie YoungJackie Young made a run to be included on the USA Basketball 17-under squad, making the cut to 46 but coming up shy of being named to the 12-member squad.
Blue Star's Mark Lewis scouted the USA Basketball Trials, and had this to say about Young ...
"If you were taking notes on what players were consistently making plays you couldn’t help but take notice of Jackie Young (2016 – Princeton, Ind.). Visibly shorter than her listed 6-1, Young is athletic and active from baseline to baseline. She creates on the drive but understands the value of strong cuts off screens or simple give and go’s. Sharp passing skills and a consistent 15 footer keeps defenders honest." -- Blue Star scout Mark Lewis at the USA Basketball Trails
Also scouting the trials was Premier Basketball Report's Jerry Simmons, who had this to say ...
"An all around player with athleticism and high skill levels. Her greatest assets are her ability to elevate on her mid range jump shot and her strength to box out and get position on the rebounding end. She is also talented in attacking the basket with no fear of contact. Also, saw on several occasions her range in shooting beyond the 3 point line. She has come on the National scene this past year and could even shine more in the coming season." -- PBR scout Jerry Simmons at the USA Basketball Trials
The list of other Purdue prospects of interest invited to the USA Trials but not making the final roster included 2015 Teniya Page; 2016s Tori McCoy, Erin Boley, Nicole Ekhomu, Kysre Gondrezick, and Nia Staples; 2017 Daly Sullivan; and 2018 Victoria Oglesby.
Young averaged 28.8 points, 12.2 rebounds, 6.54 assists and 3.36 steals as a sophomore, leading her high school to a 21-1 record last season.

Boley reduces list
Erin Boley, a 2016 forward, announced this week a pared down list of seven that includes UCONN, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and home state programs Louisville and Kentucky. Programs left off the list that had been active include Purdue, Baylor and Maryland among others.
Recruiting "difference-makers"
A media report out of Connecticut has UCONN focusing on a list of 2016 players that includes a couple of Purdue targets. Per an article in the Bristol Press, UCONN’s 2016 focus includes Princeton, Indiana’s 6’1 Jackie Young and Champaign 6’4 center Tori McCoy. UCONN could have as many as five scholarships for the 2016 class if they don’t burn any more in 2015 on a couple guards they continue to recruit. Other 2015 players mentioned being targeted by UCONN include centers Lauren Cox and Nancy Mulkey, forwards Natalie Chou and Erin Boley, and guards Crystal Dangerfield and Sabrina Ionescu. Versyp continues to speak of adding a select few "difference makers" to her upcoming classes, and Young and McCoy fit that description well.
