A look at K.K. Houser and Lincoln Southeast through the first seven games of the 2008-09 season.Southeast 50 - Omaha Westside 39: In the first round of the Great Nebraska Shootout, Class A No. 7 Omaha Westside couldn't carry junior center Sarah Nelson's double-double to victory against No. 1 Lincoln Southeast. Houser had 19 points in the win.
Southeast 59 - Bellevue West 56: In the Championship match, No. 8 Bellevue West led in the first half before No. 1 Southeast pulled ahead at halftime and remained just out of reach the remainder of the game. Bellevue West cut the lead to just one at the 1:00 mark, but two one-and-one freethrows from Houser pushed the lead back out to three. Houser led all scorers with 21 points.
Southeast 59 - North Platte 41
Southeast 67 - Grand Island 40: KK Houser hit four three-pointers in route to a game-high 20 points. Just four players scored for Grand Island, while nine players contributed to the scoreboard for Southeast. Houser and fellow senior Marissa Kastanek came out of the game for good before the end of the third quarter. Southeast head coach John Larsen told the Lincoln Journal Star Houser is a complete player. "KK does a great job of getting herself ready to go," Larsen said. "She did a good job defensively in the press, made some nice passes after dribble penetration and hit enough threes to spread out their defense."
Southeast 97 - Lincoln High 18: In the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
Southeast 45 - Grand Island 27: While Grand Island was able to dictate the tempo of the game early by breaking the Sotheast press, they couldn't avoid a 14-3 Southeast run in the second quarter that put the game out of reach. Houser had a game-high 22 points, and was the only Southeast player in double figures.
Southeast 49 - Lincoln East 39: Southeast took the the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament Championship with a 49-39 win. Lincoln East put two quick fouls on Southeast's two Division I signees (Houser and Kastanek) early in the first quarter, sending both to the bench. Lincoln East capitalized and led 20-4 at the end of the first quarter. Southeast crawled back into the game using defensive pressure, took the lead by the middle of the third quarter, and held Lincoln East to 2-of-11 shooting in the fourth for the win.
