Chantel Poston continued to pad her resume during her senior season, and came up just shy of landing two major honors. Poston helped Milan to a 29-6 record and runner-up in the Class AA girls’ state championship game. She also was a finalist for the 2008 Tennessee Miss Basketball award, averaging 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 53-percent from the field, 76-percent from the line, and 37-percent from the perimeter.Below are some game summaries from Milan's 2007-08 season.
Marshall County 44, Milan 35: The Class AA girls’ state championship game was tied 30-30 through three quarters, but five turnovers and some tight defense in the fourth helped Marshall (32-2) pull away with the title. Marshall held Milan to 2-of-16 shooting and 0-of-9 from the perimeter in the final quarter. Poston finished her high school career with a 13 point, four rebounds, three steal and three blocked shot performance. Milan finished the season with a record of 29-6.
Milan 64, Upperman 44: Plot, subplot, and a twist at the end. The main plot featured two teams fighting for a state final berth. Milan used a 27-10 run that began in the middle of the third quarter to run away from Upperman, taking the state semifinal game 64-44. The subplot had the two of the co-leaders for the 2008 Tennessee Miss Basketball facing off, Chantel Poston and Upperman's Lashay Davis. Davis scored 12 points on four three-pointers in the first half. In the second half, Poston was given Davis as a defensive assignment and Davis would not hit another field goal the rest of the game. Davis finished with 15 points. Poston shot 10-of-18 for 21 points, and added 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals. The twist, following the championship game, Davis was awarded the Miss Basketball title over Poston and LSU signee Crystal Riley.
Milan 49, Creek Wood 26: Guard Shaniqua Gray nearly outscored Creek Wood single-handedly, scoring 23 points to lead Milan. Poston added six points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks.
Milan 50, Gibson Co. 44: The fourth meeting this season between No. 3 Milan and No. 2 Gibson County allowed Milan to even the record on the season at 2-2. Gibson County ran a box-and-one on Poston and held her to 10 points while teammates Gray and Hamm had 14 each. Poston had a team-high 7 rebounds, 3 assists, plus 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Milan 58, Dyer County 40: Dyer County used a 2-3 zone to help hold Poston to 17 points and 7 boards, but couldn't contain point guard Shaniqua Gray who led all scorers with 23 points.
Milan 68, Humboldt 40: Poston scored 19 points in the win over Humboldt.
Milan 51, Lexington 50: Poston shared game-high honors with 19 points.
Milan 63, Westview 58 (OT): Poston led all scorers with 22 points, all from within the arc.
Milan 54, No. 3 Gibson County 50: After an 0-2 record so far this season against Gibson County, both games a one-point loss, Milan used a 12-0 third quarter run to distance themselves for the win. Poston led all scorers with 26 points.
Milan 82, Crockett County 46: As a team, Milan made 57-percent of their shots in a blowout win over Crockett County. Poston hit for a season-high 29 points.
Milan 74, Dyer County 58: Four players scored in double-figures, led by Poston's 19 points.
Milan 89, West Carroll 48: Chantel Poston and Perica Glenn each scored 23 points to lead Milan (14-4) over West Carroll. The Lady Dogs' defense held West Carroll's shooters to 1-of-16 from the perimeter.
Milan 60, Trenton 47: Milan used a 21-10 scoring run in the third to distance themselves from Class 2A No. 6 Trenton, ending a three-game losing streak. Poston had nine points for the second game in a row.
Westview 62, Milan 49: A nearly scoreless second quarter sunk Milan against Westview. Poston had nine points.
Gibson County 50, Milan 49: Both Poston and Gray got shots off in the final 10 seconds, but neither could keep Gibson County from winning the Gibson County Tournament title. Gibson County sophomore Heather Griffin scored on a baseline drive with 20 seconds remaining for the win. poston led Milan with 15 points.
Milan 61, Bradford 48: The lead at one time reached 25 points in a Gibson County semifinal win against Bradford. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Shaniqua Gray (18) and Poston (11).
Milan 59, Trenton 21: Milan held Trenton to 18-percent shooting. Leading by 35 points in the fourth, a mercy rule kicked in and the clock ran continuously. Poston had 17 points.
Milan 89, Crockett County 59: Milan moved to a 3-1 district record with a 30-point blowout against Crockett County. Milan orchestrated major runs of 10-0 and 27-5. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Shaniqua Gray (25) and Poston (22).
Milan 70, Dyer County 46: Chantel Poston had her third double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Milan took a two-point lead in the second quarter and expanded it to 25 by the middle of the third quarter.
Obion County 71, Milan 47: Obion County dominated every quarter and shot 61-percent from the floor, giving Milan their first District 13AA loss. Poston led Milan with 19 points.
Milan 58, Calloway County 48: Chantel Poston scored 16 of her 22 points in the final quarter, helping Milan come back from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Milan 62, Dyersburg 48: Poston scored 20 points, and Shaniqua Gray scored 20 in the second half alone for Milan. Gray finished with 25 points.
Milan 58, Lexington 31: Shooting 59-percent from the field and two 18-point quarters to start the game, Milan advanced their record to 4-0 against Lexington. Poston scored 18 points on 10-of-13 shooting while still hampered by injury.
Milan 62, TCA 27: Nursing a sore knee, Milan did not much need Poston's nine points in the 62-27 win.
Milan 77, Humboldt 60: Milan had three players in double figures including Poston's double-double with 13 points, 12 boards, plus 4 steals and 2 assists.
Milan girls 59, Henry County 48: Two career bests in the first game of the season for Milan. Point guard Shaniqua Gray had a career-high 27 points, and Poston had a career best 18 rebounds. Poston added 16 points, five steals and two blocks.
